New Factory Layout for HTI
H&T Industrial is proud of its commitment to achieving world-class quality within a lean manufacturing environment. This is supported by our H&T Excellence Team which is dedicated to keeping us continuously improving by positively impacting on waste reduction and manufacturing efficiency gains. Our aim is simple; we want to exceed our customers’ expectations in every interaction. Our Team has been hard at work and we have some exciting plans to share with you.
As our Division has grown, in terms of sales and volumes produced, our current factory layout has developed constraints, both in material movement and manufacturing efficiency. With high growth expectations continuing, managing and eliminating those constraints is important to ensure that we maintain our high level of on-time, in-full delivery performance.
Our H&T Excellence Team invited expert employees from stakeholder departments to attend a series of workshops aimed at designing a leaner, more efficient, shop-floor layout. The resulting plan includes 3 new presses to replace less efficient, larger presses which will free up floor space allowing our QA team to be closer to production. A number of presses will be grouped together in cells designed to manufacturer similar products and our one-piece flow processes will become leaner by reducing the distance raw material travels during the transformation process (from 290m down to 82m). Finally, presses that produce parts that require washing will be moved closer to the wash plant to further reduce waste.
Appropriate planning and been concluded to ensure that normal production will not be negatively impacted and phase 1 work will commence towards the end of Q.1 We look forward to keeping you informed of progress.
