Meet the Team – Operations Manager
- Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi everyone! I’m Stuart. I am married to my wife Joanne and have a step daughter called Darcy.
- What is your job role?
I’m the operations manager at H&T Industrial.
- How long have you been working @ H&T Industrial?
I have been working here for 27 years. How time flies!
- What do you like about your role?
I like my role because every day is different. We can face new challenges and tasks regularly and as part of my role here at H&T Industrial, it’s important for me to be able to think of solutions and react quickly as well as support my team.
I also really enjoy the culture we have as it’s very much focused around team work and people. Everyone is really friendly and this helps to get you through some of the more challenging days.
I’m also really lucky that I get to meet a lot of our customers and that interaction helps me understand why our jobs are so important. I get a lot of job satisfaction out of it, which is why I think this role is perfect for me.
- What is it that makes H&T Industrial different to other company’s you’ve worked for?
I’ve never worked for anyone else! I came here straight from school.
- Do you have any interesting hobbies?
I like to play golf and go fishing quite regularly. I enjoy socialising with friends and family as I’m quite a people person.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world right now where would it be? Why
I’d like to go to Ireland as it’s a fantastic country and also a good place to do all my favourite things like golf and fishing. I hear Ireland is also the home of one of my favourite drinks…
- Favourite food?
Curry – I love a nice, hot chicken naga!
- Favourite shift to work?
I used to prefer working on a 6-2 shift as it meant I could fit more golf in but I’m happy working 8 – 4:30pm now.
- Can you tell us one thing you have learnt since working @ HTI?
I’ve learned that being a part of a team is one of the best things you can get out of your job. Celebrating success whilst supporting each other through the challenges is what makes my job worthwhile.
One of our most recent successes was winning a HIVE award for Medium Business of the Year. The HIVE Blackburn & Darwen Business Awards celebrate and reward the outstanding work of businesses from different sectors from across Blackburn & Darwen.
A few members of the HTI team attended the awards evening alongside many other businesses from the Blackburn and Darwen area. It was a fantastic night for everyone who attended but to come away winning an award was the cherry on top of the cake of what has already been a fantastic year for H&T Industrial. I now look forward to the next six months to see what the rest of the year has in store for us.
- Have you faced any challenges in your job role since working @ HTI?
There have been many challenges over the last 27 years. One of my own personal challenges was adjusting to the step from a technical positon into operations manager for HTI. In terms of my work life, we have a daily priority to produce high quality components on a number of machines and sometimes this can be a challenge. But I love a challenge.
- Do you prefer to work alone or in a team?
Teamwork is always a lot more satisfying for me so I would say I prefer working in a team.
- What’s your “desert island item” and why?
This is a hard question! I would probably take a picture of my family although I’m not sure how long this would keep me alive for so maybe I would be better with a fishing rod!!
- Describe H&T Industrial in one word
Successful.
