HTI Welcomes French Student to Blackburn – Bonjour Teva!
In July 2019, H&T Industrial welcomed a french student named Teva on work experience for 3 weeks who was looking to improve his English. He shadowed many members of staff and was a great contribution to the team. Teva – you’re welcome back any time! We interviewed Teva to find out a little bit more about him and this is what he had to say…
Tell us a little bit about yourself
My name is Teva. I am nineteen years old and live in France, in a western town called Laval, near Brittany with my family. I also have a dog and a cat.
I want to become a vet which is why I have begun my first year in university studying Biology, Physical Chemistry and Earth Science (BCPST). The main subject is biology. However, to be successful in my course, I must specialise in another subject like French or English because everybody is excellent in science and I need to stand out. I don’t have the best English which is why I am here at Presspart Blackburn so I can practise.
How are you finding your time at Presspart so far?
I’m really happy to be here. Everybody is kind to me and they help me when I need it. I enjoy the work because I have been given the opportunity to work in different departments. One of my favourite jobs so far was assisting in a big meeting and I enjoyed it very much.
Are you enjoying the local food?
Of course! Basically – I like to eat! I find that your food is delicious so I am enjoying myself.
What do you think to the local weather?
We have the same weather in France but only for the winter. I think it is strange that it rains in summer here but there is nothing you can do about it.
What would you take as your one item to a Desert Island?
I practise Vietnamese martial arts; therefore, I think that I would take a punching ball. It’s good to pass the time. Nonetheless, it would be important for me to take a family picture. I can’t choose between both because both are just as important.
What are you missing most about home?
I think the thing I miss the most is my family and I would like to think they are missing me too. I am especially missing my friends because I spend a lot of time with them during the holidays. I also miss speaking in my language. It’s strange because I find it difficult to speak in English. That’s why, sometimes, I need to listen to a video or something in French.
What do you think to Brexit?
It’s a question which is hard to answer. I understand why you want to get out of the European Union but I’m not sure it is a good decision for the well-being of United Kingdom people. For example, the border between Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland is a place of regular transit (export of product…) but, because of Brexit, this border will close. What’s more, because of Brexit, the UK has lost Theresa May who I think is a great woman who brought a lot to your country. What a shame! I really hope that she has not left for nothing. If you left the European Union with a “no deal”, it will be tragic for you because you will lose a lot of economic benefits. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
